
ASC Racing Race Report: Infineon Raceway October 29-30, 2011
Sonoma, California, October 29th, 2011. There could not have been a more “Picture Perfect” weekend for The 2011 ASC Racing Series season finale at Infineon Raceway. This was the first time that ASC Racing teams return to Infineon since the 2005 Season.
Saturday started with the #32 ASC Spec Monte Carlo, piloted by Kevin Callahan, closing the deal in qualifying with the fastest lap, followed by the #33 Chevy Truck of Ed Charnock, #63 Pontiac Grand Prix of Michael Arnheiter, and the #55 Pontiac Grand Prix of Veteran Racer, Ed Ochylski.
ASC Unlimited Class found the #27 Ford Fusion, Piloted by Manuel Gil del Real, as the Pole Sitter, followed by the #77 Chevy Monte Carlo of local driver, Shannon Fry, and the #2 Dodge Charger of Rich Wall, who was forced to retire early due to sound decibels.
Qualifying laps were very difficult as there were 73 cars on the track, on both days, and due to the skill levels of all of the drivers, they did quite well despite the challenge.
Saturday's race was exciting as the green flag dropped and the cars rounded turn one and everyone fell in line battling for position. ASC Spec #32, Kevin Callahan, quickly made his move to the front with ASC-U #27, Manuel Gil Del Real, on his heels. ASC Spec #33, Ed Charnock, quickly found his sweet spot hanging on in second place spec with ASC Spec #63, Michael Arnheiter, and ASC Spec #55, Ed Ochylski, dukin’ it out for third.
#32, Kevin Callahan finished first in ASC Spec class with a fast lap of 1:44.33, followed by #33 Ed Charnock with a 1:47.73, #55 Ed Ochylski with a 1:48.72, and #63 Michael Arnheiter with a 1:48.06. #27, Manuel Gil Del Real, led the ASC-U class, with the fastest lap of the weekend, of 1:43.372, and finished first overall after an exhausting battle with Callahan. #77, Shannon Fry, was forced to retire due to a failed driveline component.
Sunday, Oct 30th
Sunday turned out to be just as spectacular as Saturday as, #33 ASC Spec Truck, Ed Charnock laid down the fastest ASC Spec qualifying lap, followed by #63 ,Mike Arnheiter, #32, Kevin Callahan, and #55, Ed Ochylski.
ASC Unlimited #27 of Manuel Gil del Real, set the fastest overall qualifying lap before succumbing to a spin leaving the Ford Fusion disabled with minor body damage. The #77 of Shannon Fry was forced to retire due to transmission failure after hours of repair of the drivetrain the night before.
Sunday’s race was just as exciting as Saturday as the green flag dropped and ASC Spec car #32, Kevin Callahan, and ASC-U #27, Manuel Gil del Real battled tooth and nail for the lead. #33, Ed Charnock once again found himself in a comfortable second place lead in Spec Class, and #63, Mike Arnheiter, and #55, Ed Ochylski, fought an exhausting battle for third.
After four lead changes between Gil del Real and Callahan, the #32 ASC Spec, Kevin Callahan, took First overall with a fast lap of 1:43.57, followed by #33, Ed Charnock, with a 1:47.11, #63, Michael Arnheiter, with a 1:46.48, and #55, Ed Ochylski, with a 1:49.96.
#27, ASC-U, Manuel Gil del Real, took First place in class, with the fastest race lap of 1:43.373, which was an almost identical lap from Saturday’s race, and second place overall to the #32 of Kevin Callahan.
