MGR Racing Prepares for Portland Race
After a long Summer break, Team MGR Racing is ready to participate at ASC's next two races scheduled at Portland International Raceway on August 27-28. Although it will be the first appearance for the Team at PIR, they are fully confident that the testing sessions prior to the races will allow them to gather sufficient information about the track to be competing for one of the top five positions during the race. Manuel Gil del Real, driver of the Symbolic Ford Taurus seems comfortable with the challenge. "We typically do fairly well at new tracks. PIR is not a particularly difficult track to learn. If the car performs and is reliable, I'm sure our results will be good as well." Adam Davis, Crew Chief for the 27 car is also optimistic about their chances for the weekend. "At the beginning of the season we had some reliability issues, mostly due to switching powertrains and adapting to the new Ford engine. Our last race a Buttonwillow proved that the engine is now more reliable so hopefully at PIR we can just focus on setting up the car for that particular track while gathering as much data as possible during our test sessions." For the first time in ASC's history, the group will be participating in an event that is sanctioned by a body other than NASA. The Portland race will be organize by the local Cascade Sports Car Club, a member of the International Conference of Sports Car Clubs. Now in it's 42nd year, the ICSCC is the largest sports car racing sanctioning body in the Northwest. |
