 MGR Racing Completes Successful Test Session at Firebird.
Phoenix, AZ. February 6, 2005. Team MGR Racing successfully completed their first on track test session at Firebird's Main Track. Manuel Gil del Real, driving the Symbolic Ford Taurus #27 completed a total of 86 laps around the 1.5 mile road course while testing the new Ford powertrain. "The new engine felt great right from the first lap" said Manuel Gil del Real. "To be honest, I had to keep reminding myself that our goal was primarily to break in the engine and test it without putting it under extreme conditions this first time out, otherwise, we would have pushed it a bit harder." Despite being conservative, Manuel achieved a best lap of 1.03.931 which was a full second quicker than the next fastest ASC car taking part in this test session. "We only had a minor glitch when our distributor gear sheared the retaining pin and broke loose in the middle of the track leaving Manuel coasting to the pits, but other than that, we can't be more satisfied with the engine's performance so far." said Adam Davis, Crew Chief for the #27. Team MGR Racing will now head over to Willow Springs, CA to qualify for the first race of the ASC season on February 12-13.
