Team MGR Racing Prepares for Their First Pre-Season Test
Phoenix, AZ, January 12, 2005. After spending the majority of the off season working on the installation of the new Ford 351W powertrain, Team MGR Racing is ready to take the Symbolic sponsored Ford Taurus #27 to Firebird East for their first Pre Season Test session. Scheduled for February 4/5, this session will focus primarily on engine tuning and reliability testing. "We do not intend to go out and set a lap record by any means" said Manuel Gil del Real, team owner and driver. He added "This will be the first time we take the new engine to the track. There are a lot of things that we need to check and data that we need to collect during this 'break in' period before we start pushing for fast lap times." Adam Davis, Crew Chief for the #27 racecar also wants to approach this test conservatively. "The new Ford engine was a tight fit and it sits a bit higher than the previous engine, thus raising our overall center of gravity. It will certainly change the way the car feels around the track; we are also testing a new clutch assembly and a number of other components, so we'd rather take it one step at a time," said Davis.
Team MGR Racing is scheduled to participate in this year's American Stock Car Challenge Series. The first official races of the season will take place at Willow Springs International Raceway on February 12 and 13.
